Medium breeds

Breeds with an adult weight 10–25 kg — 10 of them, with published ranges and the resting energy requirement each range implies.

Where the standard formulae behave best

This is the size class the common reference figures were built around. The ageing curve on the age calculator was fitted to Labrador Retrievers, which sit at the upper end of this group, and growth here is neither as compressed as in toy breeds nor as drawn out as in giant ones. Estimates in this range therefore need the least mental adjustment.

Resting energy across this class runs from about 333 to 937 kcal per day, or roughly 42 down to 29 kcal per kilogram of body weight — the decline per kilogram as dogs get larger is visible even inside a single size class.

The most common feeding error here

Medium dogs are the group most likely to be fed straight from the bag's chart, which is calibrated for a more active, often intact animal than the typical household pet. Working from the dog's own calculated requirement usually lands meaningfully lower.

Using the calculators with these breeds

Every breed page above runs the calorie calculator pre-set to that breed's range, and the puppy growth check bounded by it, so a projection that falls outside the published range is flagged instead of reported as fact. The figures shown in this list are breed-standard ranges taken from English Wikipedia; they describe the breed, never an individual dog.
